My Story

I started my health journey by mistake. I had a child at a very young age. Cut a long story short I didn't want to feel different to my other school friends so I went back to school and then even went on to become a nurse.

You can say that perhaps I was vain; I made a vow to myself that I would not follow the pattern that Latin woman In Los Angeles do.  We have a stigma that we are beautiful until we have children then gain a lot of weight.

While still practising as a nurse, I landed a job as a nutrition counsellor way back in the 1980's. This was promoting governement protocol diets.  We now know how wrong they got it back then.

I carried on with this way of life, eating low fat foods, going by how many calories food had before choosing what I ate.  I also did not do much cooking, finding it easier and cheaper to buy ready made or take away food.

I was thin but not necessarily healthy.  I felt really tired often, experienced a lot of pain in my hands and joints; I also had a lot of headaches so of course that made me irritable around my family.  I managed to put up a good front at work or when ever necessary.

What had been an ongoing project was my interest in nutrition.  I had continuously been researching the latest diet and exercise regimes, I had also taken an interest in autoimmune conditions finding that the prevalence was increasing drastically, especially amongst women.

I had been looking into studying and going back to the nutrition field for about 10 years. That was when I finally made the decesion to start studying and I became a Certified Holistic Health Coach.

I also put myself through the same tests that I would be putting my clients through.  So it came by surprise that very soon I started to feel really well.  My symptoms like head aches, low energy and painful hands had all disappeared.  I hadn't thought that anything was wrong with me, I ate so healthily after all.  I had just accepted having those symptoms as normal.  Although at this age I was making really healthy food choices, they were not particularly healthy for me.

We are all different you see. What is somebody else's medicine can be another person's poison.
